Another year, another successful Quickbooks Connect. This event gets better every year, and we won’t be missing it anytime soon. There’s so much to say. We’ve learned so much and met too many amazing people to fit into a short article.
So instead, we’re going to briefly recap from this year’s Quickbooks Connect festivities. If you couldn’t make it to San Jose, or if you did make it to San Jose and are still processing all the information like us, this list should help organize your thoughts.
Or, maybe you just need a water and some Tylenol and a long nap. Oh well!
The following is a brief recap of some incredible moments we got to witness!
Breakout Sessions:
Using Your Heart to Connect with Clients
We’ve been saying it for many years at BSBD, but we all know that putting your heart in business is first and the most important. In a world of automation, we humans have a chance to tap into the one thing the Tin Man was missing a heart. In this session, we learn ed how to connect with your current and future clients in a deeper way, by owning your brand, sharing more of who you are, and communicating with confidence.

How to Tackle Scope Creep, and Stop Doing Stuff For Free
Scope creep means changes to a project resulting in more work required. Its a BIG problem in the accounting profession. This session will pull topics and solutions from Amazon #1 bestselling author of Effective Pricing for Accountants to help you develop strategies to get paid for every hour you spend and never work for free again. This is huge for our practice!

Building Compassion: The Role We All Play in Creating Unbiased Businesses session repeats
The colors we choose, the words we write and the calls to action across sites impact more than a users experience; they can have major societal impacts with long-term implications. In this session, they will address easy-to-implement strategies that can reduce bias and ensure a more inclusive outcome.

Get Bossy: Develop Next-Generation Leadership Skills
You started the business, now you’re growing a team, so what does it mean to be the boss? In this session, we got to hear from founders and CEOs who have built fast-growing, multi-million-dollar companies (bootstrapped and venture backed) on how they balanced the demands of building a business while developing their own leadership style. We heard how they lead themselves, their teams and their organizations and we got to take away some actionable tips to becoming a more impactful leader.
Panel Discussion:
Bookkeeping Buds and Their Secrets of Success
We got to settle in for an energetic and informative panel discussion with some female bookkeepers at the top of their game. From navigating social media, staff management, setting boundaries, and transitioning to a mobile practice, they shared lessons learned along their respective journeys to help you succeed.

Driving Success through Niches
Finding a niche just might be the fastest way to build your practice but can also be a bit intimidating. We got to witness the four powerhouse panelists, Leslie Shiner, Gregg Bossen, Nayo Carter-Gray, Leia Lu, Vanessa Vasquez – Ocampo, to discuss how they’ve each built a successful practice in a defined niche. We discovered their experiences, successes and challenges they’ve faced when growing their practices and learn how we can focus your practice into a niche machine. We got to better understand the power of focusing on a segment, the challenges to be aware of going niche and developing a success model for clients.
